Subject: Did I Overreact by Walking Out on My Fiancé After Hearing a Phone Call About Christmas Plans?
I (29F) have been with my fiancé, Mark (34M), for two years. I was excited about our first Christmas together, but a week before, he told me he’d spend it with his daughter, Ella (6F), and his ex-wife, Jen, as they’ve done since their divorce. This blindsided me, as he hadn’t mentioned it before.
On Christmas Eve, I overheard him telling Jen, “She won’t know until it’s too late,” and learned he planned to stay at her house overnight to celebrate as a “complete family” without me. He admitted they hid it because Jen felt uncomfortable with me there.
Hurt and betrayed, I left and spent Christmas at my sister’s. Mark says I ruined Christmas for Ella and overreacted. Am I wrong for leaving after being excluded and lied to?
