Alice stood firm, her grief fueling her resolve as she confronted Jason’s estranged parents, Susan and Charles. They had abandoned Jason when he needed them most, but now, just a month after his death, they came demanding the house he left behind.
The bitter irony wasn’t lost on Alice. Jason had put the house in her name, knowing his parents might come looking for a claim. Still, they brought a lawyer and a cold entitlement, asserting that, as Jason’s next of kin, they deserved the property.
But Alice had something they didn’t: Jason’s final letter. As they read his words of forgiveness, the weight of their actions began to dawn on them. Yet, when Alice demanded to know why they had turned their backs on their son, the answer was shallow, devoid of real remorse.
Alice didn’t relent. “That’s not good enough,” she said, her voice firm.
Defeated, they left, their sense of entitlement stripped away. Alone again, Alice knew she had done right by Jason, protecting his memory, his legacy, and the home they had shared.
