Super Bowl LVII marked the first time two brothers faced off against each other in the big game, and fans weren’t left disappointed.
Unfortunately, it meant that in the end one brother and his teammates would come up short. In this case it was Jason Kelce and the Philadelphia Eagles.
While brother Travis Kelce and his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, celebrated their third Super Bowl win in franchise history and Travis’ second win, Jason met his brother on the field and the two shared an emotional embrace.
Later Jason, 35, was asked what he told his younger brother as the two celebrated the end to another NFL season.
“F*** you, congratulations,” he replied.
Ahh, brotherly love!
During the postgame press conference Travis, 33, discussed the weirdness of playing against his brother.
“There’s nothing you can really say to a love one in a situation like that,” he said while becoming visibly emotional. “You joke around all the time and say you want to beat your brother on the biggest stage ever, but it’s a weird feeling.”
“It’s a weird feeling. And that team had great leadership, great coaches. Obviously, it came down to the end and we’ve got all the respect in the world for those Eagles, man. There was nothing I could really say to him other than that I love him and he played a hell of a year, hell of a season.”
Jason also got a much-needed hug from his mom Donna Kelce, who equally supported both her sons, after the game.
Despite his initial comment to his brother, Jason said he was “certainly happy” for the Chiefs.
“Maybe it hasn’t hit me yet. I was a little emotional when I saw my mom and dad. Trav I was not too emotional about. I was just like, ‘F*** you, congratulations,’” he said.
“It was an awesome two weeks for our family. I’m really happy for Trav, the Chiefs. There’s a lot of people I know over there in Kansas City that are a big reason why I’m even in Philadelphia, including head coach Andy Reid. Frustrated we didn’t win but certainly happy for those guys.”
This year’s Super Bowl or the “Kelce Bowl” as many referred to it certainly was one to remember. There’s no rivalry like sibling rivalry!
Congratulations to both Jason and Travis Kelce on an incredible game!
